April 13, 1970, Mrs. Marilyn Lovell, wife of Apollo 13 Commander James A. Lovell proudly displays an Apollo 13 decorated handbag which she received as a gift from a friend. Mrs. Lovell went shopping here (Timber Cove Texas) early April 13 after returning from Cape Kennedy late April 12. Apollo 13 is enroute to the moon.
This picture was taken before the events of April 14, when an explosion of the Number 2 oxygen tank lead to NASA aborting the lunar landing and launching emergency procedures to get the crew of Apollo 13 home safely.
