Valentine's Day is just weeks away and if you are looking for a special gift for the purse collector in your life, how about a purse bouquet?
The key to this classy flower presentation is that you'll need to have some skill in flower arranging or know someone who does. Why? What you are purchasing is a moss-covered "purse." You provide your own flowers.
You can find the purse on Amazon.com from a variety of wholesalers. I bought mine from SuperMoss. The purse comes in a variety of sizes. This is the largest at 13 inches wide. However the opening is very narrow.
The next step is up to you. You can:
- Put a container inside the purse to hold water and the flower stems.
- Put floral foam inside the purse to hold water and the flower stems.
- Put dirt inside to plant flowers or a plant inside.
The purse is lined with plastic, but I would not suggest relying on that to hold water in. If you use the floral foam option or dirt, make sure the purse bouquet is outside where water leakage won't damage anything.
My mom created this arrangement. First she inserted a narrow container inside the purse to hold water and the flower stems. That way we had no leakage. But be forewarned. The moss is attached to the purse frame with glue and it sheds. Once you have it in place, you'll need to lightly sweep up some small crumb-like pieces. I only saw shedding when I moved the purse. Once it was in place, it appeared fine.
Once the container was inside the purse, water and cut flowers were added. (That's $10 of grocery store roses in the picture. There was a sale.) It took about 15 minutes to arrange.
In the end it was a unique bouquet perfect for purse aficionados. Plus it is reusable (if you use an inserted container).
