Sioux Beaded Doctor’s Bag

Lakota Sioux Beaded Doctors Bag. c.1900

Fully beaded bag with use of lazy stitch beading decorated with various Sioux geometric forms as well as butterflies.  Rather than thread, the beading was done with sinew. The Lakota would trade for European beads in the late 1800's, then use the beads to decorate clothing and other objects. This may have been a gift to a respected doctor, as a token of appreciation.
